UNESCO Chair on AI in Education

1 Introduction As we move into the intelligent era, education is undergoing an unprecedented transformation driven by artificial intelligence (AI), big data, and other emerging technologies. These advancements are not only reshaping traditional educational models but also redefining the fundamental nature of teaching and learning. This presentation will explore the evolving demands placed on education in this new technological landscape, emphasizing the need for innovative learning models, personalized instruction, and data-driven decision-making. As AI continues to revolutionize content delivery, assessment, and student engagement, educators and policymakers must navigate critical challenges such as digital equity, ethical considerations, and the evolving role of teachers. By analyzing the integration of intelligent technologies, we will examine how they can enhance learning outcomes while ensuring accessibility and maintaining the human-centered values that are fundamental to education. This session aims to provide forward-thinking insights into shaping the future of education in a way that is inclusive, effective, and sustainable. 2 Outline • New Demands for Integrating Generative Artificial Intelligence into Education • New Forms of Education in the Intelligent Era • New Initiatives for Educational Transformation through Intelligent Technology 3 Summary This presentation examines the transformative impact of intelligent technologies on education, focusing on the new demands they create and the innovative learning models they enable. AI-powered tools are revolutionizing pedagogy, enabling personalized learning experiences, automating assessments, and facilitating real-time feedback. Intelligent education systems, supported by big data analytics, offer opportunities for adaptive learning pathways, improving both student engagement and institutional decision-making. However, these advancements also present significant challenges. Issues such as digital access disparities, data privacy concerns, and the readiness of educators to integrate AI-driven tools must be carefully addressed. Additionally, the role of teachers is evolving, requiring a shift from traditional instruction to a more facilitative and mentorship-based approach. By discussing emerging trends and best practices, this session highlights how educational institutions can leverage intelligent technologies to enhance learning while upholding ethical principles and ensuring inclusivity. The future of education in the intelligent era depends on strategic collaboration between educators, technologists, and policymakers to create a system that is not only technologically advanced but also human-centered and equitable. 4 Biography Ronghuai Huang is a Professor in Faculty of Education of Beijing Normal University (BNU), specializing in smart learning environments, artificial intelligence in education, educational technology, and knowledge engineering.
